The short version
- We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the site is used - nothing that identifies you personally.
- We never sell or share your data, and we don't run ads.
- The ClintReads desktop app works locally; it doesn't transmit the text you read.
What the website collects
Anonymous usage analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to see which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are (country), what device/browser is used, and how people arrived. Clarity also records anonymised session replays and heatmaps - by default it masks text and form inputs, so we see layout interactions, not your personal content.
Download counts. When you click a Download button, we log a timestamp, your country, and the referring site so we can count downloads. We do not store your IP address or any name.
Email sign-up (optional). If you enter your email to be notified about updates, we use it only for that. We never sell or share it, and you can ask us to delete it anytime.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. ClintReads uses:
- Analytics cookies - set by Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to measure usage. These are not used for advertising.
- A theme preference - your light/dark choice is saved locally in your browser only (it is never sent to us).
We use no advertising or marketing cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time.
The ClintReads app
The desktop app is separate from this website. It runs on your PC, reads aloud only the text you highlight, and does not send your highlighted text, clipboard, or documents anywhere. To keep itself up to date it periodically fetches a small version file (get.clintreads.com/latest.json) - that's a standard update check, not tracking.
Your choices
- Use your browser's cookie controls or private-browsing mode to limit or clear cookies.
- Install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on to stop GA measurement.
- Email us to remove your sign-up email or ask what we hold.
Third parties
The tools above have their own policies: Google, Microsoft (Clarity), and our hosting/email providers Cloudflare and MailChannels.
